80 points

How you pass

You need at least 60% of the 80 points — and no single part may score zero. That last rule is why candidates who ignore speaking or writing fail even with strong reading and listening.

How it works

Where candidates lose points

Writing is the part you cannot grade yourself

Reading and listening have right answers you can check. Writing does not — so most people practise it least and lose the most points there. Write your answer in Estonian and get it scored against the official A2 criteria, with what to fix next.

  • Scored on the same things examiners look at: task completion, length, and whether the content points are covered
  • Tolerant of A2-level grammar slips, strict about missing content — exactly like the real rubric
  • Explanation in your own language, not in Estonian

Task

Kirjutage sõbrale lühike sõnum ja kutsuge ta külla. (vähemalt 30 sõna)

Your answer

Tere Mari! Kutsun sind minu sünnipäevale. Pidu on laupäeval kell kuus minu kodus. Palun too kaasa oma sõber. Me sööme torti ja tantsime. Anna mulle teada, kas sa tuled.

FAQ

Questions people ask before starting

What is the Estonian A2 language exam?

The A2-level Estonian language proficiency exam (eesti keele A2-taseme tasemeeksam) is the state language exam organised by HARNO, the Education and Youth Board of Estonia. It tests four skills — writing, listening, reading and speaking — and is scored out of 80 points, 20 per skill.

How is the A2 exam scored, and what do I need to pass?

Each of the four parts is worth 20 points, for 80 in total. You pass with at least 60% of the total, and no single part may score zero — so you cannot skip speaking or writing and make up the points elsewhere.

How long does the A2 exam take?

The written parts are held in one block of roughly one hour and 50 minutes: about 30 minutes for writing, about 30 minutes for listening and 50 minutes for reading. Speaking is held separately and takes about 15 minutes.

What kind of tasks are on the exam?

Reading has five tasks (replies, matching statements to short texts, understanding notices, a longer text, and a gap-fill). Listening has four (multiple choice, true/false, short answers, matching). Writing has two (transferring details from a card, and a short message or description). Speaking has two (describing a picture with follow-up questions, and an idea-card conversation).

Are these the real exam questions?

No — and no honest preparation site can give you those. Our exercises are original tasks written to match the official format, task types, scoring and difficulty, so that nothing about the structure surprises you on exam day.

Can I try it before paying?

Yes. A sample exercise is free, so you can see the task types and how scoring works before you decide.

Do I need to understand Estonian to use the site?

The interface is in English, Russian and Ukrainian. Only the exam content itself is in Estonian — exactly as it will be on the real exam.

Is exams.ee an official exam provider?

No. exams.ee is an independent practice platform and is not affiliated with HARNO or any Estonian state authority. Registration for the exam itself happens through the official channels.
